FIFA 08 on the DS is one of those games that somehow makes tiny pixelated players feel like they’ve got real weight to them. You’ve got all the usual teams and leagues, but the controls are surprisingly smooth for a handheld—no awkward button combos, just pass, shoot, and sprint like you’d expect. The graphics won’t blow you away, but the animations are decent enough that you can actually pull off little flicks and tricks if you time it right.
What surprised me was how much they crammed in here. You can tweak players, set up tournaments, or just jump into a quick match. The multiplayer’s fun if you’ve got a friend with a copy, though good luck finding someone still carrying this around. It’s not perfect—the AI sometimes makes baffling decisions—but for a portable soccer fix, it holds up better than you’d think.
