FIFA 98: Road to World Cup on the SNES is pure late-'90s soccer chaos in the best way possible. The graphics are blocky, the animations have that classic stiffness, and the commentary sounds like it was recorded in a tin can—but that’s half the charm. You pick a national team, slog through qualifiers, and try not to scream when your striker botches an open goal (because of course they will).
It’s fast, a little messy, and way more fun than it has any right to be. The soundtrack still goes hard, and there’s something weirdly satisfying about watching your pixelated squad celebrate like they just won the actual World Cup. If you grew up with this era of sports games, it’ll hit you right in the nostalgia. If not, you’ll at least get a laugh out of how far we’ve come.
