Fire Trap is one of those arcade games that looks simple until you actually start playing. You’re basically a tiny dude running through these maze-like levels, trying not to get roasted by fire traps or stomped by whatever enemies they throw at you. The controls are tight—just quick jumps and dashes—but the timing has to be perfect, or you’ll end up as charcoal.

The first few levels ease you in, but by stage 5, you’ll be sweating. Some traps are obvious, like flaming walls, but others pop up out of nowhere, and that’s when the panic sets in. I lost count of how many times I yelled at the screen because I missed a jump by half a second.

If you like arcade games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t blame me when you get stuck on that one level with the spinning fire wheels.
