Game Overview

Forest for the Atari 2600 is one of those games that seems simple until you actually play it. You're just a woodcutter trying to reach your tree, but everything—and I mean everything—wants to stop you. Snakes slither in from the sides, birds drop rocks from above, and even the occasional bear shows up to ruin your day.

At first, I kept trying to axe everything, but turns out snakes can’t be chopped—you’ve gotta jump over them. The bird’s rocks are the worst though; get hit, and you’re frozen for a couple seconds, which is basically a death sentence with animals closing in. Once you finally reach the tree, you’ve still got to chop it down while dodging attacks. Climbing helps, but the whole thing gets faster every time you succeed. One life, no second chances. Brutal, but weirdly satisfying when you finally get that tree down.

It’s the kind of game where you’ll fail a dozen times before figuring out the rhythm, but that first successful run feels like a real victory.
