Fort Boyard on the Game Boy Color, released in 1999 by Microids, was one of those licensed games that felt right at home on the handheld. You control a team of four contestants, switching between them to explore the fortress room by room. The main goal is to collect keys and treasure by solving puzzles, avoiding traps, and occasionally facing physical challenges. Signature mechanics include navigating trap-filled rooms, solving logic or timing-based puzzles, and managing your team's limited resources and health. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly due to the hardware's constraints.
