Frogs and Flies is one of those Atari 2600 games that looks simple until you actually try it. You control a frog at the bottom of the screen, flicking your tongue up to catch flies buzzing in random patterns. The timing’s trickier than it seems—wait too long and your opponent (or the AI) snatches them first.

Two-player mode is where it really shines. My brother and I used to waste hours trying to out-flick each other, especially when the flies start moving faster. The colors pop in that classic Atari way, and the controls are surprisingly tight for something this old. It’s not deep, but there’s something satisfying about nailing a long shot just before the other frog does.

If you’ve got a friend nearby and a soft spot for retro competition, this one holds up better than you’d expect.
