Front Line came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1982, published by Taito. It was one of the earlier NES titles, a time when many games were straightforward arcade ports or simple action concepts. You control a lone soldier advancing through a battlefield, moving from the bottom of the screen toward the top.
You guide your soldier through jungles and across rivers, shooting enemy troops and avoiding their fire. The main goal is to reach the enemy command post at the top of each stage and destroy it. Key mechanics include commandeering abandoned tanks for heavier firepower and throwing grenades in an arc to hit enemies behind obstacles. The pacing is relentless; enemies spawn constantly, and the difficulty escalates quickly with each new area. It feels like a constant, tense push against an overwhelming force.
