Front Mission: Gun Hazard is one of those weird, cool SNES games that never made it outside Japan—thankfully, there's a solid fan translation. It's a side-scrolling mech shooter, but way deeper than you'd expect. You hop in these customizable Wanzers (big stompy robots), blast through levels with machine guns, missiles, even melee weapons, and somehow it also has RPG mechanics. Like, you’ll grind for better armor or tweak your loadout between missions.

At first, it feels like a Contra clone with robots, but then you realize there’s actual strategy—some weapons chew through ammo fast, others are slow but hit like a truck. The sprite work’s gorgeous too, especially the explosions. It’s janky in that classic 90s way, but if you like mechs or hidden gem action-RPGs, this one’s surprisingly addictive.
