Funky Jet came out in 1992 as an arcade game from Data East. It was part of that era where you'd drop a coin into a cabinet and get a quick, loud dose of action, usually with a friend crammed next to you. The graphics were bright and chunky, the kind of look that was common before polygons took over everything.
You control a character with a jetpack, moving through single-screen stages, punching out an assortment of odd enemies. The main goal is simply to clear each area of foes to proceed, fighting larger bosses every few stages. Key mechanics include using your jetpack for limited flight to navigate the platforms, and picking up power-ups that change your attack, like throwing fireballs. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can get intense, especially with another player on screen causing friendly fire chaos. It feels like a straightforward, chaotic scramble where you're just trying to survive the next wave of weirdos.
