Game Overview

I remember picking up Garfield: Big, Fat, Hairy Deal on the Amiga back in 1988. It was developed by Edge and published by The Edge, a title that fit right in with the era's growing library of platformers and adventure hybrids. The game didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it stood out for its source material and the way it translated Jim Davis's comic strip into something playable.

You control Garfield through a series of side scrolling levels, solving item based puzzles and avoiding enemies like spiders and mice. Your main goal is to rescue Arlene from a haunted house, which means collecting keys, avoiding obstacles, and managing Garfield's hunger and energy levels. If he gets too tired or hungry, he'll just lie down and nap, forcing you to wait or find food. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, with a fair amount of backtracking and trial and error. It feels like a straightforward, charming adaptation that captures the humor and laziness of the character, even if the controls can be a bit stubborn at times.
