Game Overview
Gauntlet Legends on the N64 is one of those games that just feels better with friends. You pick from warriors, wizards, archers, or valkyries—I always went for the wizard because, well, fireballs—and then it’s just you and up to three others smashing through dungeons, grabbing loot, and yelling at each other for stealing the food drops. (Seriously, don’t hog the turkey legs.)
The Japanese version doesn’t change much, but the menus are in Japanese, which adds a fun layer of mystery if you’re not fluent. Combat’s chaotic in the best way—you’ll be swarmed by skeletons one second and dodging giant rolling boulders the next. And yeah, Skorne’s the big bad, but half the fun is just seeing how far you can push your character before someone inevitably dies to a trap and needs reviving.
It’s old-school, a little janky by today’s standards, but that’s part of the charm. You’ll lose hours to it without realizing.
