Game Overview

Gefaehrliche Mäusejagd (or "Dangerous Mouse Hunt") is one of those weird little Atari 2600 gems that makes you go, "Wait, they made a game about this?" You play as some poor soul whose job is apparently to shoot mice—yes, actual pixelated rodents—scurrying across the screen before they vanish. It’s frantic in that classic early-80s way where everything moves just a little too fast for comfort.

What’s cool is that it actually supported the Atari light gun if you had one (good luck finding that now), though the joystick works fine too. The mice start slow, then suddenly they’re zipping around like they’ve had three cups of coffee. Miss one, and it feels weirdly personal. There’s no deep strategy here—just you, a cursor, and an escalating rodent problem.

It’s obscure even by Atari standards—PAL-only, from a tiny publisher—so if you stumble across a copy, it’s more of a novelty than a must-play. But for retro collectors, it’s a fun oddity that captures how weird and experimental early gaming could be. Also, the title alone is worth a chuckle.
