Play Genjin Kotts Online

Bonk smashes through prehistoric levels with nothing but his skull—bounce off enemies, ride dinosaurs, and send cartoon bad guys flying with perfectly timed headbutts. Chunky Game Boy sprites somehow make his wobbly victory dances even funnier.

Game Overview

Genjin Kotts, known as Bonk's Adventure outside Japan, was a Game Boy release from 1990, developed by Red Company and published by Hudson Soft. It arrived during a period when platformers dominated handheld libraries, offering a portable version of the head-bashing action familiar to TurboGrafx-16 players.

You control Bonk, a small, strong caveman who attacks by jumping and headbutting enemies from above or charging into them horizontally. The goal is to advance through side-scrolling prehistoric stages, defeating enemies and bosses to rescue the kidnapped Princess Za. Key mechanics include bouncing off enemies' heads to chain attacks, collecting floating meat to power up and temporarily become invincible, and riding friendly dinosaurs that provide unique attacks. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty feels fair but requires precise jumps. It feels satisfying to land a series of headbutts and watch enemies pop off the screen.
