Game Overview

Super Genjin, known as Super Bonk in North America, came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991. Hudson Soft developed and published it, and it was one of the quirkier platformers on the system at the time. It didn't take itself too seriously, which made it stand out among the more straightforward action games of the era.

You control Bonk, a small, round-headed caveman who navigates side-scrolling levels by running, jumping, and headbutting enemies. The goal is to progress through each stage, defeat bosses, and eventually confront the evil King Drool. Bonk's signature moves include a spinning attack after a high jump and the ability to transform into larger, more powerful forms after collecting enough meat. The levels are bright, colorful, and often surreal, with themes ranging from prehistoric landscapes to abstract dream worlds. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty is manageable but not without challenge. It feels cheerful and unpredictable, like playing through a cartoon from another dimension.
