Play Goal! on GB Online
Control a soccer team, pass the ball, take shots on goal, and aim to win tournaments in Goal! on Game Boy.
Goal! on the Game Boy came out in 1992 from Jaleco, a time when handheld sports games were more about function than flash. It was one of the few soccer options you could carry in your pocket, a straightforward attempt to capture the sport on Nintendo's monochrome screen without a lot of frills.
You control a team of players, moving the ball up the field with short passes and attempting shots on goal. The main objective is to win matches in the tournament mode, leading your chosen national team to claim the cup. Signature mechanics include diagonal passing, which requires precise timing on the D-pad, and managing your team's stamina to avoid sluggish players in the second half. The pacing is quick, with matches that can turn on a single mistake, and the difficulty spikes noticeably in later rounds. It feels like a genuine test of your patience and skill, especially during the tense, sudden death penalty shootouts that decide drawn games.
