Game Overview

Goal! Two came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed and published by Jaleco. It was a time when sports games on the NES were starting to get more complex, moving beyond simple arcade-style action, and this sequel tried to build on its predecessor with a more strategic approach to soccer.

You control a team of players from an angled overhead view, moving the ball downfield by passing between your squad and taking shots on goal. The main objective is to win matches in either a single-player tournament or a two-player versus mode, choosing from a selection of 24 international teams. Key mechanics include managing your team's formation before each match and executing sliding tackles to dispossess opponents. The game moves at a deliberate pace, emphasizing positioning over frantic action, and the difficulty comes from the computer's aggressive defense. It feels like a thoughtful, if sometimes clunky, attempt to simulate the flow of an actual soccer match.
