Gods came out on the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by The Bitmap Brothers. It was part of that wave of action games that tried to blend platforming with puzzle solving, standing out with its detailed visuals and a serious, almost methodical tone compared to the faster paced titles of the time.
You control a muscle bound hero, navigating through a series of single screen rooms that make up each level. Your main goal is to find and collect four pieces of a magical mask hidden somewhere in the dungeon. You fight with a sword or a bow, but the real challenge comes from the enemies; they don't just rush you, they often hang back and wait for an opening, forcing you to time your attacks carefully. The game is difficult, but it gives you a break by secretly adding extra health potions to the levels if you die repeatedly.
