GoldenEye: Rogue Agent on DS is one of those rare shooters that actually makes the touchscreen controls work—after some tinkering. At first, I kept fumbling with the stylus aiming, but switching to thumb-pad play felt way more natural. The story’s your classic revenge tale: you’re an ex-MI6 brute working for Goldfinger, complete with a shiny new cyber-eye that lets you see through walls and hack stuff mid-firefight.
Single-player’s decent, but the real draw is the multiplayer chaos. Even with just one cartridge, you can cram eight players into wireless deathmatches, which is wild for a DS game. Oddjob’s hat toss never gets old. The melee combat’s clunky, but dual-wielding pistols while dodging behind cover? That never stops being fun.
It’s not perfect—some levels drag, and the AI occasionally forgets it’s supposed to shoot back—but for a handheld FPS in 2005, it punches way above its weight. Just don’t expect it to live up to the N64 original.
