Goonies on NES is one of those weirdly charming side-scrollers where you play as Mikey, sneaking through caves and dodging traps set by the Fratelli gang. The controls feel stiff at first, jumping is oddly precise, and some pits seem impossible until you figure out the timing.

What stands out is the atmosphere. The music has this eerie, almost lonely vibe, and the flickering torches make the caves feel alive. You’ll spend a lot of time backtracking, searching for keys to free your friends, which can get tedious. But there’s something satisfying about finally unlocking a new path.

It’s not perfect, some rooms feel like trial-and-error death traps, and the lack of a password or save system means starting over every time. Still, if you like old-school exploration with a bit of tension, Goonies has its moments.
