Game Overview

Gourmet Paradise came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by TOSE and published by Irem. It was one of those quirky, food-themed action games that felt right at home on the handheld, sitting alongside other oddball titles that didn't take themselves too seriously. You control a little chef who has to gather all the ingredients in each kitchen before the timer runs out.

Enemy cooks patrol the area, and if they catch you, you lose a life. The main goal is to clear each stage by collecting every item while avoiding these foes. Two key mechanics define the play: you can temporarily stun pursuers by grabbing a pepper power-up, and certain stages introduce environmental hazards like moving conveyor belts or sudden steam bursts. The pacing is frantic, especially in later levels where the enemy count increases and the layout becomes more maze-like. It feels like a constant, delightful scramble against the clock.
