Gradius II came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, developed and published by Konami. A key mechanic is the power-up system; you collect orange capsules to cycle through a menu at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to strategically build your ship with options like speed boosts, missiles, lasers, and protective Options that mimic your shots. The game is notoriously difficult, with aggressive enemy patterns and checkpoints that send you back far upon death. It feels tense and exacting, demanding precise movement and smart power-up choices to make any progress.
