Gradius III came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed and published by Konami. It was one of those early SNES titles that really showed off what the system could do with its colors and smooth scrolling, standing out among the platform's growing library of action and arcade ports.
You pilot the Vic Viper spacecraft through horizontally scrolling stages filled with enemy ships, turrets, and environmental hazards. The main goal is to survive each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. A key mechanic is the power-up system; you collect capsules to build a custom arsenal from a menu of options like speed boosts, missiles, lasers, and protective options. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is steep, especially in later levels where enemy patterns become dense and demanding.
