Gran Turismo for the PlayStation Portable came out in 2005, developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony. It was one of the first serious racing games on the PSP, and it tried to bring the depth of the console versions to a handheld. You control a driver in a variety of cars, from everyday compacts to high-end racers. The main goal is to earn credits by winning events, then use that money to buy new cars or upgrade your current ones. Signature mechanics include tuning your vehicle's performance parts, like the suspension or transmission, and completing license tests to improve your skills and unlock new events. The pacing is steady; you spend a lot of time grinding races to afford better hardware. It feels satisfying to slowly build a collection and shave seconds off your lap times.
