Game Overview

Gravitar on the Atari 2600 is one of those games that looks simple until you actually try to fly your ship. You're up against this cosmic villain who's warping entire galaxies with insane gravity fields—and your job is to take them back, one solar system at a time. Each system has planets crawling with bunkers and a reactor base at the center. You can either clear every planet or trigger the reactor and bolt before it blows, but good luck with either option.

The gravity is brutal. One wrong move and your ship gets yanked into a mountain or spirals into the sun. The first few tries, I barely made it past the first planet before crashing. And just when you think you've got the hang of it, the next galaxy ramps up the difficulty—stronger gravity, tighter spaces, more enemies. There are five skill levels, but even the "easy" setting feels punishing in the best way. It's the kind of game where every small victory feels earned.

If you like games that don't hold your hand, Gravitar will either break you or make you obsessed. No in-between.
