Guitar Hero: On Tour - Decades came out for the Nintendo DS in 2008, developed by Vicarious Visions. It was part of that era where everyone was trying to figure out how to make rhythm games portable, and this one used a unique grip peripheral to turn the handheld into a miniature guitar controller.
You play as a guitarist moving through different time periods, playing hit songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. The main goal is to hit scrolling notes on the touchscreen in time with the music, using the guitar grip's four fret buttons and a strum bar on the side of the system. Signature mechanics include tapping the screen for hammer-ons and pull-offs, and tilting the DS to activate star power for score multipliers. The pacing is fast, and the higher difficulties demand precise timing and quick finger movements. It feels surprisingly physical and engaging for a game you hold in your hands.
