Guitar Hero: On Tour - Modern Hits came out for the Nintendo DS in 2009, published by Activision. It was part of that wave of portable rhythm games that tried to bring the living room arcade experience into your hands. The DS was already full of quirky peripherals, and this one came with its own guitar grip attachment that plugged right into the GBA slot.
You play as a guitarist in a band, working through a setlist of popular rock and pop songs from the mid to late 2000s. The main goal is to hit scrolling notes on the touch screen in time with the music, using the guitar grip's fret buttons and the stylus to strum. Signature mechanics include star power activation by shouting into the microphone and navigating hammer-ons and pull-offs to keep combos alive. The pacing is fast, especially on higher difficulties, and your hand cramps up after a few intense songs. It feels like a genuine, if miniature, test of rhythm and coordination.
