Game Overview

GUN Showdown came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2006, developed by Rebellion and published by Activision. It was one of the few open-world Westerns on the system, arriving at a time when portable games were still mostly smaller in scope. The PSP had a handful of ambitious titles, and this was an attempt to bring a console-style action game on the go.

You control Colton White, a bounty hunter navigating a violent frontier. The main goal involves completing missions, hunting bounties, and exploring towns and wilderness. Signature mechanics include gunfights with a lock-on targeting system, horseback riding and combat, and occasional mini-games like poker. The pacing is fairly open, letting you choose between story missions and side activities, though the difficulty can spike during larger shootouts. It feels rough in places, but there's a simple satisfaction in clearing out an outlaw hideout with a repeater rifle.
