You control one of two Gunstars, running and gunning through side-scrolling stages to stop an empire from reassembling a powerful artifact. The game lets you mix and match four weapon types on the fly, creating combinations like a homing laser or a wide spread shot. Levels shift from traditional run-and-gun to a board game style stage select and even a mine cart sequence.
