Game Overview
Gunstar Heroes is one of those Genesis games that just feels amazing to play. You start off with this little dude who can either run-and-gun or lock in place to aim—I always go for the free movement because the chaos is half the fun. The first level throws you right into it: dodging bullets, flipping over enemies, and swapping between weird weapon combos (flamethrower + lightning? sure, why not).
Treasure went all out with the sprite work—everything explodes in these ridiculous neon colors, bosses take up half the screen, and sometimes the camera just zooms in and out like it’s showing off. It’s got that perfect balance of being easy to pick up but wild enough that you’ll still die laughing when some giant robot foot suddenly drops from the sky. One of the few games where the hype is actually deserved.
