Game Overview

Gunstar Heroes is one of those Genesis games that still feels wild even today. You start off picking between two characters—one's all about acrobatics, the other's a walking arsenal—and then it just throws you into this chaotic run-and-gun mess. The first level alone has you sliding down cables, dodging explosions, and fighting a boss who turns into a giant dice block. Treasure went all out with the colors and effects, so even when the screen's packed with bullets and enemies, it never gets confusing.

What really sticks with me is how creative the weapons are. You can mix and match different shot types, like a homing laser that bounces off walls or a flamethrower that turns everything into a fireworks show. And that minecart level? Pure insanity. The Japanese version's got some slight differences, but either way, it's a blast.
