Harvest Moon 3 on the Game Boy Color throws you onto a sleepy island farm that’s seen better days. A girl asks for your help—turns out, running a farm solo is harder than it looks. You’ll start with rusty tools, a handful of seeds, and a cow that stares at you like you owe it money.

Mornings are for watering crops, petting animals (they get grumpy if you skip), and trying not to blow all your cash on turnips. The town’s got a weird charm—there’s a movie theater that only plays one film, and the local shopkeeper acts like you’re bankrupting him every time you buy a bag of feed. Oh, and if farming gets dull, you can always chase after one of the villagers. Good luck figuring out who likes flowers versus who’d rather get a sack of potatoes.

It’s janky in that old Game Boy way, but there’s something satisfying about watching your scrappy little farm grow over time.
