Game Overview
Harvest Moon DS - Sunshine Islands is one of those games where you start out thinking, "I'll just plant a few crops," and suddenly it's 2 AM and you're still trying to convince the local blacksmith to like you. The islands are dim and gloomy when you arrive, and it's up to you to bring back the sunshine by completing tasks, farming, and—of course—making friends with the villagers (who are all weirdly picky about gifts, by the way).
You'll spend your days clearing land, raising chickens that somehow escape every other morning, and figuring out which crops grow best in each season. There's something oddly satisfying about watching your little farm expand, even if the mining mini-game still makes me want to throw my DS across the room sometimes. The graphics are a nice step up from older Harvest Moon games, and the new diving mechanic adds a fun twist when you're not busy chasing after your cows.
Fair warning: The villagers have strong opinions about turnips. You’ll learn that quickly.
