Heroes of Mana came out for the Nintendo DS in 2007, developed by Square Enix. It was part of that wave of DS games that tried to do something different with the hardware, in this case using the touch screen for a real time strategy take on the Mana series. It felt ambitious for a handheld at the time, even if it didn't always click with everyone.
You control a hero from a flying ship, the Mana Fortress, directing a small army of units across grid based maps. Your main goal is to complete mission objectives, which usually involve seizing bases, defeating enemy commanders, or protecting key locations. You spend most of your time tapping the screen to move your units, ordering them to attack, harvest resources, or build new structures. The pace is fast, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, demanding quick decisions. It feels like managing a miniature, chaotic war from the palm of your hand.
