Hunter X Hunter: Kindan no Hihou came out on the Game Boy Color in 2001, published by Bandai. It was one of those late-era GBC titles that tried to squeeze a little more out of the hardware before the Advance took over. The game follows Gon and his friends on a quest for the elusive "Forbidden Treasure," fitting right into the adventure-RPG niche the system was known for.
You control Gon, exploring environments screen by screen, fighting monsters with his fishing rod, and solving environmental puzzles. The main goal involves tracking down pieces of the treasure, which sends you through towns, forests, and dungeons. Two mechanics stand out: you collect and use trading cards to perform special moves in battle, and NPCs engage in actual price haggling when you buy or sell items. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, and the difficulty can spike in later areas. It feels like a thoughtful, slightly rough adaptation of the series that rewards patience.
