Game Overview

International 3D Tennis came out for the Amiga in 1990, developed by Palace Software and published by Gremlin Graphics. It was one of the earlier attempts to bring a three dimensional perspective to sports games on the platform, arriving at a time when polygonal graphics were still a novelty and often came with a noticeable performance cost.

You control a tennis player from a behind the back perspective, moving them around the court to return serves and volleys. The main goal is to win matches across numerous tournaments, facing off against a large roster of computer opponents or a friend in two player mode. Signature mechanics include applying topspin or backspin to the ball for strategic control, and switching between multiple camera angles to get a better view of the action. The pacing is deliberate, demanding careful positioning rather than frantic movement, and the high number of skill levels means the difficulty can scale significantly. It feels like a thoughtful, technical simulation of tennis rather than an arcade style rush.
