Game Overview

International Superstar Soccer on SNES was my go-to soccer game back in the day—way before FIFA got all fancy. You’ve got 26 national teams, all based on the 1994 World Cup squads, so expect some nostalgic lineups (and questionable haircuts).

What I loved was the Scenario mode—you jump into the second half of a match with a specific goal, like turning a 2-1 deficit into a win. Some are based on actual World Cup games, which adds a cool twist. There’s also the usual stuff: quick matches, tournaments, and penalty shootouts when you just want to settle a grudge with a friend.

It’s not the prettiest or smoothest soccer game now, but back then, nothing beat that feeling of nailing a last-minute winner with Italy’s Roberto Baggio. The commentary’s hilariously robotic, but you’ll be too busy celebrating to care.
