Game Overview

I picked up Jeopardy! : Teen Tournament for the Game Boy back in 1999, a GameTek release that was part of a wave of licensed trivia and game show adaptations for the handheld. It was a straightforward port of the TV show, aiming to capture the feeling of competing from your couch, just on a much smaller, monochrome screen. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel; it was a solid, portable version of a familiar format.

You play as a contestant, selecting answers from a grid of categories and dollar values. The main objective is to outscore two computer opponents by correctly phrasing responses in the form of a question. Key mechanics include using the D-pad to navigate the answer board and the A button to ring in, with a timing element that punishes buzzing in too early. The game's pacing is quick, and the difficulty hinges entirely on your own knowledge of the clues, which are pulled from the show's teen tournaments. It feels like a genuine test of recall against the clock, and getting on a roll is a real thrill.
