Remember when every cartoon had to have its own fighting game? Tournament Fighters was the TMNT's shot at the genre, and honestly? It kinda ruled. You've got all four turtles with their signature weapons (Donnie's staff has ridiculous reach), plus some wild original characters like a hockey-masked psycho named Sisyphus. The first time Armaggon the shark-man flew across the screen with those weird wing-arms, I nearly spit out my soda.
What surprised me was how polished it felt—special moves actually work when you input them (looking at you, Mortal Kombat ports), and the stages are packed with little TMNT Easter eggs. That rooftop level with the neon signs? Pure 90s. It's no Street Fighter II, but nailing a triple-kick combo with Mikey while a pizza slice flies across the background never gets old. Just don't pick Hothead unless you enjoy losing—dude moves like he's stuck in molasses.
Konami clearly put love into this one. Even the versus mode intro where the turtles dramatically flip into frame still gives me chills.
