Game Overview

Super Jeopardy! came out for the NES in 1991, published by GameTek. It was one of the many game show adaptations floating around at the time, trying to capture the feeling of watching television on your console. You didn't see many pure quiz games like this, especially ones that tried to handle typing on a controller.

You control a contestant, selecting clues from the board and buzzing in by hitting the A button. The main goal is to outscore your opponents across the Jeopardy and Double Jeopardy rounds, then win the Final Jeopardy wager. The signature mechanics are buzzing in quickly, navigating categories with the D-pad, and using an on-screen keyboard to type out responses letter by letter. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, because inputting answers is a chore; the difficulty spikes when you know an answer but fumble typing it in time. It feels like a test of both your trivia knowledge and your patience with old hardware.
