Game Overview

Super Glove Ball came out for the NES in 1990, published by Mattel. It was one of those games that tried to make use of the Power Glove accessory, though you could play it just fine with a standard controller. It arrived during a period when developers were experimenting with new control schemes and hybrid genres, and this one definitely stood out for its odd mix of block breaking and maze navigation.

You control a small ship inside a series of enclosed 3D rooms, viewed from a first-person perspective. Your main goal is to break all the blocks in each stage while avoiding enemies that bounce around the space. You fire a ball to smash walls and targets, and you need to catch it when it rebounds or you'll lose a life. The game is structured screen by screen, with some stages requiring you to find keys or hit switches to progress. It can get pretty hectic trying to track the ball and watch for enemies at the same time, especially in later levels. Playing it feels like a tense, fast-paced puzzle where your reflexes and spatial awareness are constantly tested.
