Remember when every sports legend had to have their own NES game? Jimmy Connors Tennis was Nintendo's take on tennis back when pixels ruled the court. You've got three difficulty levels to choose from โ beginner feels forgiving, but advanced will have you sweating over those pixel-perfect serves.
What's cool is how they nailed the different court surfaces. Grass plays way faster than clay, just like real tennis. You can grind through all the big tournaments (Wimbledon looks especially blocky in 8-bit glory), and there's this oddly satisfying password system to track your winnings. I may or may not have spent an entire Saturday trying to beat my $58,000 high score.
The ball machine practice mode is weirdly addictive too โ 300 balls coming at you never felt so stressful for something that looks like a yellow square.
