Kaboom! came out in 1981 for the Atari 2600, developed and published by Activision. It was one of those straightforward, no frills games that felt right at home on the system, relying on a single joystick and the paddle controller for its unique brand of chaos.

You control the Mad Bomber's bucket catching partner, moving left and right along the bottom of the screen to catch bombs he drops. Your only goal is to catch every single one; miss three, and it's over. The game starts slow, lulling you into a rhythm, but the bombs fall faster and faster with each screen cleared. It demands total focus, your hand constantly twisting the paddle knob as the pace becomes frantic. Playing it feels like a tense race against your own reflexes.
