Karate Blazers came out in 1991 as an arcade game from Video System. It was one of those side-scrolling brawlers that filled arcades back then, where you and a friend could drop in a coin and just start hitting things. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel; it just gave you a straightforward beat 'em up experience with a martial arts theme.
You pick one of four fighters, each with their own basic moves and a special attack that drains health. You walk from left to right, clearing each screen of thugs before moving on. The main goal is to survive all the way to the end of each stage and defeat the boss waiting there. The game is known for its two-player co-op and the ability to pick up weapons like knives and bottles from defeated enemies. It moves at a decent clip, but the difficulty spikes hard during boss encounters, which demand precise timing. It feels like a solid, no-frills brawler that rewards coordination and punishes mistakes.
