Game Overview

Okay, so Angelic Layer on the GBA is basically the anime in your pocket, but with way more button-mashing. You start by picking your Angel—these tiny, customizable fighting dolls—and then throw them into these fast, almost chess-like battles where positioning and timing matter way more than you'd expect. I went with a speed-focused build at first, which was great until someone wrecked me with a tanky close-range type.

The sprites are surprisingly detailed for a GBA game, and the battles have this weirdly satisfying rhythm once you get the hang of dodging and countering. Half the fun is tweaking your Angel’s stats between matches, swapping out parts like you’re building some kind of deadly Barbie. And yeah, it’s got that classic anime story mode where every rival has a dramatic backstory, which is either charming or ridiculous depending on your mood.

It’s one of those games where you lose track of time because you keep saying, “Okay, one more fight to test this new arm attachment.” If you ever wanted a mix of Pokémon’s customization and a fighting game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this is it. Just don’t blame me when you get way too attached to your tiny robot brawler.
