Game Overview

King's Knight came out for the NES in 1986, developed by Square. It was one of their earlier titles, a vertical shooter that felt a bit out of place among the platformers and RPGs of the time. You don't hear much about it now, but it had a certain charm, a kind of experimental energy that made it stand out, for better or worse.

You control one of four heroes, each with a unique weapon, and you move upward through screen after screen of enemies. Your main goal is to reach the top and defeat the final dragon, but the real challenge is navigating the dense enemy patterns and environmental hazards. You collect power-ups to improve your shot, and there are occasional puzzle-like elements where you need to find keys or break barriers to progress. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty spikes sharply, especially around the mid-boss. Playing it feels like a chaotic scramble, a mix of frustration and satisfaction when you finally break through a tough section.
