Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded is one of those weird, underrated DS gems that mashes up a bunch of gameplay styles into one surprisingly fun package. You're basically diving into Jiminy Cricket's bug-infested journal (because of course that's a thing) as a digital Sora, jumping between classic Disney worlds to fix corrupted data.
The combat feels familiar if you've played other Kingdom Hearts games, but with this weirdly satisfying chip system for upgrades—like slotting in attack boosts or HP increases like you're building some kind of digital Frankenstein. And just when you think you've got the hang of it, the game throws curveballs: one minute you're in a side-scrolling platformer section, the next you're in a turn-based battle or even a shooter. It shouldn't work, but somehow it does.
What I really liked was how replayable the worlds are—after clearing them, you can go back to hunt for hidden stuff or just try to top your high score. It's got that classic Kingdom Hearts charm, but with enough weird little twists to keep it fresh. If you're into action RPGs with a bit of chaos, this one's worth a shot.
