Game Overview

Kinniku Banzuke GB: Chousensha ha Kimida! came out in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, developed by KCEO and published by Konami. It was part of that wave of late '90s handheld games that tried to capture the feel of Japanese TV game shows, something you didn't see too often on the small screen outside of Japan. The game is based on the actual "Muscle Ranking" TV series, and it translated that over-the-top physical challenge vibe pretty well for its time.

You control a contestant trying to complete a series of obstacle courses against CPU opponents or a friend via link cable. The main goal is to reach the end of each stage without falling or failing the event. Signature mechanics include timing your jumps across unstable platforms, swinging from ropes with awkward momentum, and avoiding obstacles like spinning arms or giant rolling balls. The physics are deliberately silly and unpredictable, which makes every attempt feel both clumsy and tense. It's a game where you fail a lot, but usually in a way that makes you laugh and want to try again immediately. Playing it feels like being part of a chaotic, slightly broken, but endlessly amusing playground competition.
