Play Kishin Kourinden Oni (Japan) Online
Swing your sword through shadowy villages, dodging yokai ambushes between flickering lanterns—the combat’s got weight, and those boss fights demand patience. That late-SNES pixel gloom sticks with you.

Kishin Kourinden Oni is one of those SNES games you’d probably walk right past in a rental store—until you actually play it and realize how wrong you were. It’s got this weird, moody vibe, like someone took a classic Japanese folktale and cranked up the demonic chaos. You’re slashing through yokai with swords and spells, and the combat just feels good—responsive, weighty, with just enough magic to keep things interesting.
The pixel art is gorgeous in that eerie, late-SNES way, all dusky villages and flickering lanterns. And the music? Haunting. Like, "I might hum this melody at 3 AM and freak myself out" levels of atmospheric. Boss fights will wreck you if you just button-mash, but figuring out their patterns is weirdly satisfying.
It never got an English release, which is a shame—but if you’re into action RPGs with a dark, mythological spin, this one’s worth the extra effort to track down.
