Play Konami Collection 2 Online

Squeezing Gradius and Contra onto a Game Boy shouldn’t work, but somehow dodging bullets on that tiny screen feels even more tense. That familiar Konami difficulty hits just right with chunky pixels and beepy sound effects.

Game Overview

Konami Collection 2 came out for the Game Boy in 1990, a time when handhelds were mostly about quick, simple games. Konami packed two of their arcade hits, Gradius and Contra, into one cartridge, giving players a solid dose of action on the go. It was a practical way to experience these games without needing a cabinet or a home console.

You control a ship in Gradius, weaving through enemy formations and upgrading weapons with collected power-ups, or a soldier in Contra, running and gunning through alien-infested terrain. The main goal in both is survival; you push through side-scrolling stages, dodging bullets and taking out bosses. Signature mechanics include the power-up system in Gradius, where you select upgrades from a bar, and the spread shot in Contra that clears groups of enemies. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty is high, demanding quick reflexes and memorization. It feels satisfying to finally beat a level after learning its patterns.
