Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei came out on the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed and published by Atlus. You control a lone protagonist navigating a demon-infested Tokyo, moving screen by screen through maze-like dungeons where every shadow could hide an enemy. Your main goal is to survive, recruit demons to your side through conversation (a tense, trial-and-error process), and fuse them together to create stronger allies. The pacing is deliberate, the difficulty unforgiving, with frequent random encounters and a real need to manage your resources. It feels like threading a needle in the dark, where every small victory is earned through careful planning and a little luck.
