Game Overview
Langrisser, Der is basically a beefed-up version of Langrisser II for the SNES—Japan-only, of course. It’s got the same tactical RPG goodness, but with some extra polish and tweaks that make battles feel a little smoother. You’re still commanding troops, recruiting mercenaries, and watching your choices actually shape the story, which was pretty rare for the time.
First few minutes? You pick your main character’s class (I always go for the knight first—those early cavalry units are a lifesaver), then dive into grid-based battles where positioning matters way more than just raw stats. The sprites are chunky in that classic SNES way, but the magic animations still look surprisingly flashy. Later got ported to the PC-FX, but honestly, the SNES version just feels right.
